Founded in 1927, the University of Hull is a traditional red brick University and has approximately 14,000 students. Though classed as a "redbrick university", its expansion in recent decades has seen the addition of a variety of building styles from the traditional main buildings, 1960s teaching blocks to modern additions.The University has a track record of providing a high-quality education.The main campus in Hull is 10-15 minutes from the center of town, about 3 miles north, and covers 94 acres. The University has one of the best Student Unions in the UK and organizes an abundance of clubs, societies and visiting bands ensuring that there is always something to do in Hull.
The University of Hull is located in the North of England on the eastern coast. Hull is a waterfront city with a renovated center, an Old Town section with cobblestone streets and traditional pubs and museums, and many venues for sport and recreation. The countryside to the West is a region of open plains and rolling hills, with medieval villages, stately homes and coastal resorts. Hull is approximately 3.5 hours from London, 3.5 hours from Scotland and 50 minutes from York (by train). There is an international airport about 30 minutes from the University. There is a daily ferry linking Hull with Zeebrugge and Rotterdam.
You should choose to take the majority of your modules in one department. At Hull, 60 UK credits (equivalent to 15 UMass credits) per semester is a full course load with most classes worth 20 UK (5 UMass) and 10 UK (3 UMass) each. Students will have the option to make changes to their classes during first two weeks of term. Theater students have been particularly well-served by the Hull Drama and Theatre Production Department. You should also be aware that if you are studying for the 1st semester only (September – January) you will be expected to remain to Hull for the January examinations should this be part of the module / course assessment.
Accommodation is in student housing on the Hull campus or in University-owned houses in the town of Hull, with a single study/bedroom and shared kitchen and bathrooms. There are catered and self-catering halls and on-campus flats available.
Hull has a very active Student Union with over 70 clubs and societies available for social, general interest, and sports.
