Program Description:

University College Dublin has its origins in the mid-nineteenth century under the leadership of the renowned educationalist John Henry Cardinal Newman. Since its foundation in 1854, the University has flourished and made a unique and substantial contribution to the creation of modern Ireland, based on successful engagement with Irish society on every level and across every sphere of activity. UCD is one of Europe's leading research-intensive universities; an environment where undergraduate education,masters and PhD training, research, innovation and community engagement form a dynamic spectrum of activity. The international standing of UCD has grown in recent years; it is currently ranked within the top 1% of institutions world-wide.


UCDBelfield, the main University College Dublin campus is located on a 132 hectare site, 4 km south of Dublin city center. You can take up to six modules (classes) per semester at UCD. You can register for less than six modules with permission from your home university.  Study abroad students have access to the full range of undergraduate modules available at UCD* (* subject to capacity and timetabling).  You can register for up to four modules in your subject area and up to two modules from other Programme areas.  You may also take all of your modules within your chosen subject area.

Restrictions: Due to their popularity, Psychology modules are restricted to Psychology majors. English Level 3 modules are only open to students who either Major or Minor in English.

You will be pre-registered to your modules before you arrive at UCD and in most cases, you will have up to two weeks after the start of term to alter your module selection.

For Engineering Majors: University College Dublin often works quite well for students seeking major credit in Engineering courses. Please have a look at the Database of International Course Equivalencies for the latest pre-approved Engineering courses.
