During this experiential learning program, students will earn 6-9 upper-level credits during 3 weeks in Europe exploring cultural and historical sights, seeing first-hand how tourism management is used to improve the social and economic impacts of regions and countries. This experience, with a mix of group activities and free time, is relevant and open to all students.
2019 Program Dates & Basic Itinerary
Tuesday, May 14 - Friday, May 31
Depart the US on red-eye flight Monday, May 13th
Arrive in London, England Tuesday morning, May 14th (4 days in London)
Train to Paris, France (4 days in Paris)
Overnight train to Verona, Italy (3 days in Verona, 1 day in Venice)
Fly to Lisbon, Portugal, where program ends Friday, May 31st (5 days Lisbon)
Earn 6-9 upper-level elective credits in 3 weeks.
This faculty-led program allows you to have an international study and travel opportunity, while returning to the US in time for summer jobs and internships.
Provides a good mix of group activities (included in program fee) and ample free time to explore on your own.
Course work is completed pre- and post-trip in order to maximize your experiential learning while abroad.
Open to all students, including Hospitality and Tourism Management, other Isenberg, non-Isenberg, undergraduate and graduate.
Courses satisfy HTM upper-level electives and 300-level business electives in Isenberg.

Tour Operations Management (HT-MGT 391T) Learn the requirements and tasks of tour operators including the leading of small group tours, providing tourists with interesting site specific information, coordination and arrangement of accommodations, and operational challenges.
Cultural Tourism (HT-MGT 391B) Learn the culture and lifestyle of specific regions through history, art, architecture, cuisines, social dynamics, and recreation that shape a culture's way of life. Emphasis is placed on experiential learning, awareness, and comprehension of different cultures and cultural dynamics.
Critical Issues in Hospitality & Tourism (HT-MGT 391C) Optional 3 credit Independent Study. Research, identify, and discuss a current critical issue facing the hospitality and tourism industry. The independent study seeks for students to develop analytical and academic research skills by identifying points of view, competencies, management skills, theoretical development, and strategic management.
Group activities in London such as: Welcome dinner, Blue Badge tour of Westminster Abbey, tour of British Museum, flight on London Eye, Traditional High Tea, Fullers Brewery tour, and hotel tour.
Group activities in Paris such as: Seine river cruise, dinner at La Petite Chaise (oldest restaurant in Paris), Le Cordon Bleu private culinary demonstration, visit to Office du Tourism de Paris, guided tour of Louvre Museum, wine tasting at Musee de Vin, and hotel tour.
Group activities in Verona such as: tour of Arena di Verona, full day trip with tour and dinner in Venice, San Giorgio Valpolicella wine tasting with tour and dinner, and hotel tour.
Group activities in Lisbon such as: Castelo de São Jorge tour, Quinta de Bacalhôa winery tour and tasting, day trip to Sintra village, free time to enjoy beach, sunset boat tour, hotel tour, and farewell dinner.
