Program Description:

Logo Uni MarburgPhilipps-Universität Marburg

The Philipps-Universität Marburg was founded in 1527 as the first protestant university in the world. Situated in one of the most scenic medieval towns of Germany, with about 80,000 inhabitants, an old saying, but one that still applies, is: other towns have a university, Marburg is a university. The University of Marburg offers more than 100 subjects in almost all fields of the liberal arts and sciences including economics, business, law, medicine and dentistry. There is a strong commitment to international students.
   Marburg Castle Ascent

Marburg is a university town with an 800-year history, with small crooked streets and lanes in the old town between the river Lahn and the castle on the hill. University flair set in an impressive surrounding countryside. When Landgrave Philipp (the magnanimous) founded the University in 1527 he also ensured that Marburg would be a town open to the world with students and visitors from all over the globe. The first Nobel prize winner for medicine Emil von Behring after whom the pharmaceutical company was named gave Marburg the impulse to become a center for life sciences and pharmaceutical technology.

Living ArrangementsMarburg Market Place

Exchange students, IUSP students, and ISP students are encouraged to apply for a room in student housing when completing their application form for study at UMR. We highly recommend this option to students who are eligible, as finding private housing in Marburg can be challenging.

The Studentenwerk Marburg offers all in all about 2100 places of residence in larger and smaller student residences. The residences are, like the university and its institutes, distributed all over Marburg. Due to good bus connections, there is never a problem in reaching one’s destination.
