Since its foundation in 1877, TU Darmstadt has played its part in addressing the urgent issues of the future with outstanding research and teaching. The university’s research profile includes thermo-fluids and combustion engineering, new materials, matter and radiation science, integrated product and production technology, and the future internet. Technology is at the heart of all disciplines at TU Darmstadt. The Natural Sciences as well as Social Sciences and Humanities cooperate closely with Engineering.


With almost 150,000 residents, Darmstadt lives up to its reputation as the ‘City of Science’: The Technische Universität Darmstadt and around 30 other international institutions as well as research-oriented enterprises contribute to the prosperity and progress of the Rhine-Main-Neckar region. Moreover, the city is proud of the Mathildenhöhe, Darmstadt’s major Art Nouveau center, its theater and its cultural life in general.

Everything concerning accommodation for exchange students arriving in Darmstadt is centrally managed by the Exchange Students Housing Assistance – ESHA . It offers special assistance to international students and exchange students in finding suitable accommodation. This service includes an Accommodation Guide (with links to private and public student housing, hotels and boarding houses), guidelines for searching for accommodation on the private market and assistance with housing contracts, negotiations with landlords or moving into student housing.
